XP Home Logging in then Login out automatically

A

alex

Hi,

I just restarted an xp (home sp1) pc and i am unable to login under any
account in either safe mode or normal mode. The administrators account does
not work either.

The machine logs in and displays the wallpaper and then logs out again

The computer had a sh*tload of viruses on it which I had removed prior to
the restart. A virus scan from a boot cd revelaed one more virus but it was
on a write protected folder so it coud not be removed.

The computer was recently installed with Panda av software and also ms
antispyware.

I really do not want to reinstall if i can help it. When I try safe mode
with command prompt it loads into normal safe mode.

I have found the problem mentioned accross many news groups but know one has
yet provided a definitive answer

any help apreciated

alex
