XP Home does not detect USB device (camcorder)

My pc does not detect a camcorder when I plug it in. I
have XP home, and the computer is only a couple months
old. I have added the windows updates automatically, so
I assume I have everything from Service Pack 1.

Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 314634 tells me to
find the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_Machine\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Usb

in order to add a registry value. However, I cannot find
such a key. I have "usbehci" "usbhub" and "usbuhci" but
no "usb". Can someone help me find the right key? Is it
one of the ones I do have?
