XP Home Addition added to a Domain

Peter Williams

Hi There,

A collegue of mine in work has a laptop running Windows XP
Home addition. The issues we are having is I need to add
his laptop to our domain to be able to set him up on MS
Exchange. After right clicking on My Computer and
selecting properties and going to the Network
Identification I have noticed that there is no option to
add the computer to a domain. Is it possible to add this
computer to a domain by installing a patch etc?

Many Thanks
Pete

home edition is not designed to be member of a domain; one of the primary
differences between the two versions. home edition is for home, with less
network functionality normally used in businesses. i can only suggest
upgrading to xp pro if you really need it member of domain. or, for this
purpose of email, instead of upgrading, you can still use outlook, but will
ask for username/password upon startup.

Windows XP Home does not have the ability to connect to a
Domain. Thats why it is called Home instead of
Professional. It has no Domain Networking
functionality. There is a patch for it, but
unfortunately it's called Windows XP Pro.
