XP Home add/remove programs

I have a business card prog that I had trouble with, so I
used subject to remove. It still showed it on list and
could not reinstall. When using add it goes to install
shield then wizard and then finish but it asks about
removing instead of installing. If I read the knowledge
base correctly I need to go into register and delete it.
Is that the way to go? How much risk is involved in
someone who does not know very much messing around in
there? Thanks for any help in advance!

Remove it from here for starters: Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Uninstall
