XP HE oem question

I have XP oem preinstalled on my pc - no restore disks,
just a hidden partition I can restore factory defaults
from.

My question is, if my HD failed would it be possible (and
legal!) to borrow or copy a friend's XP oem disk and
install to a new HD using my original Product Key?

The way I see it, I've paid for the licence so this should
be ok??

You have to take it up with the company who has their name
on the box.

Yes you can, if its the same version. Just burn a
bootable copy.

Buy a OEM disk designed for sale to home computer builders,
you will need to buy some hardware, so if you need some bit
of hardware, like a NIC or CPU fan, you can get the OS up to
snuff. Do you have CDs for the applications that are OEM,
they might not install if you don't have the factory OEM
OS installed, but that is probably a BIOS lock. So if you
flash your BIOS it might not work.

What brand, the one that went belly-up?
