XP Harddrive transfering to Windows Vista

Okay, i know there are alot of SIMILAR posts about this topic but none of
them seem to either answer my question or solve it.
Essentially what happened to me is my computer (running Windows XP) got a
fatal error, (missing or corrupted system.dll) so essentially the only way i
can get it to work again would be to reformat.
With that in mind, there are a few documents id like to save and so i
brought over my hard drive to my friends house (Windows Vista).
We have corresponding Harddrives, its all good like that, his computer
RECOGNIZES my harddrive, and i can look through it and i can select and move
things out of certain folders, but the material i want most is in my Admin
folder! Including my documents and such.
Because of Vista, it wont let me access these files due to security reasons
and no permission. I was wondering if there is a way i can bypass this
security and acess my files.
IT shouldnt be illegal or anything because i have my own permission to do
this and my friends as well haha.
IT might be because of the XP security, and im hoping that wont matter.
Another thing that would be even better is if i can replace the .dll file
that was corrupted and just have my computer work fine again. If thats
possible i'd like that to happen too.
I dont know my version of XP so i cant do a restore.
If theres any possible way to do this i'd be forever grateful. I've been
trying to fix this alone for a week and no luck.
Thanks in advance.

A dll file is just a collection of functions and nothing more. It should
have no specific information pertinent to your system.

You can replace it all right provided you get the same or newer version.
The latest version appears to be 2.0.50727.312

Well, i got all the files i wanted which worked great.
The problem was, my xp dll files werent up to date cause i dont have
genuine. I was gipped out of it by a company i bought it from, and i dont
have the money to get a new copy which sucks.
AND lol my power supply is crapped out, so i cant use my computer anyways :(
