XP hangs during boot...

H

HankyPanky

When I boot XP I get the error"There is a problem...Technical info:

Stop: 0x0000007E (0x0000005, 0xEE9154D0, 0xF896BFC8, 0xF896BCC4)"

The only thing I can do, is turn of my PC. Or reboot in Safe Mode. I tried
to boot with "the last known working configuration, but this results in the
same (fatal) error.

I have tried to go back to an earlier date, doesn't work, same error.

When I look in NTBTLOG, I see

.....loaded amdagp.sys
loaded agpCPQ.sys
Fail to load ACPI-pc (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface)
Fail to load Audiocodecs...

And lots more failures to load.

It seems that driver ACPI-pc (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) is
the problem.

In my idea this are the files from ACPI:

* hal.inf

* hal.dll (\system32)

and maybe ntkrnlpa.exe (\system32), ntoskrnl.exe (\system32) and ASACPI.SYS
(\system32\drivers\).

On the same computer I have a (still working) XP-install.

Is it possible to just copy these files from the good to the defective
WindowsXP, or must I do other things (too)?

I prefer not to do a (re) install of Windows XP

Thnx

well if you don't hang in safe boot, then it is definetly a driver or peice
of hardware. DO NOT DELETE those hal or nt files you mentioned....... You
will create a disaster.

I havn't checked out the specifics to the files mentioned in the error
codes, but it sounds like the problem is related to a sound driver or
something.

Some sound cards use the old autoexec.bat file. Check it out and delete
anything in it, -in safe mode. While in safe mode ensure that there are no
sound related startups in msconfig, if so then disable. Also, go to the
system device control panel, and see if you can disable (not uninstall)
anything related to sound, audio, etc..... And before you reboot, be sure to
disconnect all the connections from the pc except mouse, kb, monitor.

These are only basic suggestions and to see if it may help get you
functional again. Ultimately, you could also simply "repair" windows instead
of reinstalling.... But if there is a hardware problem, it may hamper the
repair process as well as a reinstallation, if you chose this method......

Actually, if you find anything in your autoexec.bat file dnt delete any
lines, instead put rem in front of the lines so that they will be ignored....
