XP Hangs at Desktop on First Boot

Group,
I'm running Windows XP Home, on a Pentium 4 3.06 GHZ. When I first
Startup the computer, it completes the boot up and is at the desktop. For
about a minute, I cannot get Internet Explorer/Crazy Browser, Outlook
Express, or Dial-Up Networking to come up. As well as various other
programs. Windows Explorer is all that will open in that minute time frame.
Any help would be apprieciated, below are all the things running in the
background.

rundll32.exe @ 3,644k "I have no Idea why this is there"
ATIx10.exe @ 4,300k "Video Card Remote Control"
atiptaxx.exe @ 2,820k "Video Card Driver"
explorer.exe @ 16,288k
svchost.exe @ 3,340k
svchost.exe @ 1,604k
svchost.exe @ 12,284k (it says 01 in the CPU column)
svchost.exe @ 2,880k
lsass.exe @ 5,300k
services.exe @ 3,024
winlogon.exe @ 2,124
csrss.exe @ 2,732k (it says 01 in the CPU column)
smss.exe @ 356k
imapi.exe @ 2,492k
taskmgr.exe @ 3,204k
system @ 216k
system idle process @ 20k (it says 98 in the CPU column)

That's pretty normal - XP does a good job of displaying the desktop fast
but =it hasn't finished booting=. It is still loading and initializing
services, and it is also probably making a 'last known good' copy, and
various other housekeeping things. Since your cpu is 98% idle, I guess
we can assume that the bottleneck is probably disk activity, or network
logon, or something.

rundll32 is used to run another (dll!) program .. a quick trip to start,
run, msconfig, startup tab should show you what.

I'm not sure why imapi.exe is loaded (it isn't on my systems, but then
I've turned a lot of cr&p off). You might find that at the startup tab
too.

You may be able to reduce the load a bit by a quick trip to:
http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm
but understand what the services do before you turn them off.
