xp hanging

my pc hangs for no reason and erratic hanging ; both keyboard and mouse
hangs in air and i am losing all data as unable to do save. only way is
to reset using an external button
i have done defrag, registry cleaning, anti virus up-todate

Look for any Error Messages in the Event Viewer with Red Crosses for either
Hardware or Applications.
Did you install any USB Drivers lately or Printer, Scanner/Software can
cause conflict.
