Hi

I'm running XP with SP2 on a Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600, and I've found
that if I leave the laptop alone for say half an hour, regardless of
whether or not there are any applications open, then it sometimes
freezes, with no response from keyboard or mouse. I've tried
uninstalling what I've recently put on, such as msn messenger, google
talk, but no luck. I've seen there are lots of people with this problem
at login, but I can run my computer for hours with no probs. Today for
the first time it locked up when I was just scrolling through a
webpage. I've got AntiVir running, but I installed this after the
problem started. Apart from things like Office, I've also got Roxio and
Matlab on here- are there likely to be issues with these?

Any ideas or pointers much appreciated!

Helen

Hi

Rule of thumb with freezing ( screen displays but accepts no input) -
Processor overheating.

Check to make sure your vents are not blocked, check to make sure the fans
are running and keeping the 'inards' cool. Make sure you don't leave it in
direct sunlight. Your symptoms are classic overheating problems. Perhaps
take it in to have it opened and cleaned out.
