I want to disable the xp firewall, as it is preventing me to use my webcam.

I follow the directions on how to get to "change the settings of this network" and when I click on it I get a message saying that Explorer needs to shut down and should I report it.

What can I do to disable the XP firewall?

Any webcam software that requires that you disable your firewall is useless.
You should never run without a firewall, period. You may need to open some
ports....but don't disable it outright, and be *very* careful when opening
ports.

Don,

You enable and disable ICF from Network Connections - Local Area Connection -
Properties - Advanced tab - "Protect my computer ...".

Wouldn't it be wiser though to figure out what port your webcam uses, then open
that port thru Network Connections - Local Area Connection - Properties - TCP/IP
- Properties - Advanced button - Options tab - TCP/IP filtering - Properties.
Better some protection tan no protection at all.

Cheers,
Chuck
Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.

Thanks for the reply and the candid remarks.
The Yahoo messenger is not allowing me to use the webcam because of the firewall. I guess I should forget using it.

I've done it before in the past with Yahoo and a (hardware) firewall....you
just have to play with the connection settings in YIM.
