Very long story in nutshell-
I'm trying to reinstall Symantec Internet Security 2004 after failed install and laborius uninstall. Microsoft message suspects "Trojan.Win32.Urbin (msvsres.dll)". NIS says must disable XP firewall before instalation but, my Advanced tab in Properties<Network Connections is not available and possibly corrupted, it says. So I can't uncheck the "Protect my computer...prevent access to computer..." as directed and I don't have any Restore points. Upgraded from XP home to Pro a week ago.

Help please! My computer is a basket case and so am I. Thanks.

get rid of the virus

then do a repair that will turn the firewall off

http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/repair_xp.htm

search for firewall on the page using the edit-find option

Dear Mary,

Thank you for responding. Following Norton website instructions is where I came in. It says how to disable XP firewall before instalation but, I can't; as per my explanation.

Thanks again,

Dear Wayne,

Thank you for responding.

I'm not sure I was clear. Getting rid of the virus is what I'm unable to do since I can't install Norton anti-virus w/o turning off XP firewall, it says; RE my post.

Maybe another virus scanner may help where the norton virus fails?

Can the free online scanner at http://housecall.antivirus.com shift the
virus for you?
