XP Firewall does not start automatically

XP PC with SP3. The firewall does not start automatically even though it is
set to. It will start manually. I have tried reapplying the service pack and
using the winsock fix but it did not work. Any suggestions?

What antivirus/security software do you have installed? Many of these
programs have their own firewall component which will disable the Windows
Firewall. This is by design. Examples are McAfee, Norton, some versions of
TrendMicro.
