XP File attribute trouble

Running XP Home. Have 3 computers on network.
Successfully able to share files across network on
a "read" basis. When I try to set access uncheck "read
only", XP seems to make the change, but when I check back
a moment later, it has been reset to "read only". Am
making change when logged in with admin rights. What am
I doing wrong?
