XP dosen't acknowledge Additional Drives

Background: Motherboard has 2 IDE ports. Primary has 2
HD's & Secondary has CR-RW & DVD ROM. No further
expansion possible. Needed to add an addition HD.
Action: Added a PCI 2 port IDE controller card and 1
additional HD to controller card. Card is recognized in
Device Manager with no conflicts or problems. HD is shown
under Disk Drives with no problems or conflicts except is
shown as a SCSI drive instead of an IDE drive.
Problem: Disk drive DOSEN'T show up under "My Computer"
and I have no way to access it through XP.
Post: How can I get XP to recognize the drive??

In Disk Management is the drive shown as partitioned and healthy? If the
drive is not partitioned it will not be seen in My Computer; if it is not
formated it can't be written to.

You can both partition and format your drive through Disk Management. With
that part of the process done it should then be available in My Computer
window.

Good Luck,
Len

HAve you created a partition on it and formatted it? A bare drive is
not yet usable. Control Panel - Admin Tools - Computer Management,
select Disk Management and look lower right for the graphic of the
drive.. R-click in Unallocated space and take Create partition (using
the whole drive) and proceeding to format it - reboot once done

You don't need to reboot for the drive to become visible. Once it is
initialized, partitioned, formatted and assigned a drive letter, then it is
immediately available. The only time I needed to reboot was when a file was
being used by the system and I tried to change the drive letter. Until I
rebooted, both the old and new drive letters were visible in Windows Explorer.

BTW...it is faster to get to Disk Management by going to
Start->Run->diskmgmt.msc
