XP does not support CD-RW

I get an error message when trying to erase or reformat a
CD-RW by using "Erase this CD-RW". Also I noticed that
the CD-RW is shown as a CD-ROM in the MyComputer folder.

Is there a fix available from Microsoft for this?

I am using XP Home. BTW, the same problem occurs with
DVD-RW
