xp defrag

Hi all,
I've been a bit slack about keeping my pc clean, and recently checked
the fragmentation and found it had reached 35%. I can't seem to get
this down below around 30% though - i've run defrag in normal and safe
modes and neither makes much progress.

can anyone suggest why i can't get fragmentation down to a decent
figure, and what i can do about it.

Try first running both the disk cleanup and the error

checking ( like scan disk ) tools. Disk cleanup is in
system tools, and the chkdsk.exe tool is accessed by open
the "my computer", and then right click your hard drive
and select properties, then tools, and "error checking"
and a message will appear about not able to run until the
next reboot, which is fine. Then when you run defrag be
sure to close out all other programs first.
