Hello,
I recently upgraded an IBM A21e laptop to Windows XP. For the most part the
computer is functional, however I can't get the computer to print or
recognize the printer. The printer is an all in one HP T45 (fax, printer,
scanner). Each time the computer tries to communicate with the printer I
get a error (can't communicate with printer). The particulars of the system
are as follows: IBM ThinkPad A21e, 256 mb ram, OS upgraded from Win 98 to
Win XP, 10 Gb hard disk, Bios upgraded, printer HP OfficeJet T45.
I've gone thru a number of quick fixes which include switching the old
printer cable for a new one, and still no communication.
Looking at 'system'--'hardware'--'device manager', lists the printer port
(LPT 1) as working correctly. However, the COM 2 port has an issue (yellow
exclamation point). A look at the 'properties' of COM 2 states that the
device has not started.
I've deleted the LPT 1 port, and rebooted and it reinstalled, and no
success. I've deleted the COM 2 port, and rebooted, and still no success.
I viewed the I/O and IRQ settings for both devices. Settings for Com 2 are
I/O 02F8-02FF and IRQ is 3. LPT 1 settings are I/O 03BC-03BF. I changed
LPT values to 2 and 3, and still no success. I'm starting to think that the
COM 2 issue is the problem, even though LPT 1 is said to be functioning
correctly.
If anyone can give me assistance your help would be greatly appreciated as
this has become a major issue for me.
Thanks again for your assistance.
