XP Clean Install on SCSI drive taking > 12 hours

Hi
I am trying to install XP Pro on my Dell Dimension 620
(933MHz,256Mb,36G SCSI). It is taking more than 20 hours
and the GUI portion of the install never completes.
I have a hunch that it may be due to the SCSI problem. The
steps that I followed are as below. Unfortunately I do not
know what SCSI drivers to download. PC has a built-in
adapter with the AIC-7899 chipset. That is all the
information that I have from Dell.

These are the steps:
Low level formatted the drive using the SCSI utility.
Changed the boot order to boot from CD.

XP recognized that the disk had no OS and asked to format
the drive.
Chose NTFS for the entire drive , single partition.
It finishes the "blue" part of the install and reboots to
finish the install in GUI mode.
This is when it really gets slow. The screen says 39
minutes remaining but it is really 12-14 hours before it
changed to 35 minutes.

Hope this scenario description helps someone to help me.
Thanks in advance,
Sachi

You go to Dell, type in your SERVICE tag number and look for drivers and if
the card came with it, the suggested drivers should be there.

Contact me I can e-mail you the SCSI drivers. Then all you need to do is install them on a floppy. From that point you install the Windows XP CD. As the CD loads press F6 for SCSI controllers. In a minute or two the screen will appear and ask you to install the SCSI drivers. Insert the floppy and browse to the floppy disk drive, and install the selected drivers. Most of the time after this is done Windows will ask you if you want to use this driver or Windows has a driver that is a closer match than the driver you have selected.

I already tried that route and the Dell site does not list
any XP drivers for the SCSI adapter.
Thanks for the suggestion.
