Xp Can't load file

When I click a file to open it, the associated program opens up, but
says "can't find the file" If I click the file again, it opens
properly. What could be causing this? Any ideas for fixing it?

Open the Explorer, tools menu, Folder Options to the Filetypes tab, and
scroll to that filetype. Click the Advanced button, and remove the "Use DDE"
instruction.

What is DDE anyway?
When should I use it?
