XP can't find driver for usb hub

I purchased a Belkin 1.1 usb hub. I hooked it to my
computer. XP recognized the hardware, but said it could
not find the software for the device. I took the hub to
my son's house and installed it on his computer and his XP
had no problem loading the software driver for the hub. We
both have the same computer. I also brought it to work and
installed it on my computer at work that is running win 98
and it works fine there too. Why can't winInstall find
the software on my computer?

It's the same computer but is the same software installed on both computers,
what about peripherals, are all the hardware devices currently connected to
the system the same on all systems? It's possible you have a conflict with
something currently running on your system.

A couple of things to try. Place the XP CD in the drive on your computer,
when the setup screen appears, select "Check System Compatibility." If
there is something causing a problem on your setup, it might show up here
and may be the source of the issue.

Also, check the error log for possible recurring errors. This may point to
a problem that is causing an issue with this device. Open Control Panel,
open Administrative Tools, open Event Viewer, look for errors in the log and
double click. The information within may point to the possible source of
the problem. Pay special attention to any error that corresponds with the
time when you attempted to install the hub.
