xp: can't add the vorbis.acm codec, audio codec listing is erratic

J

Jong

Hi. In windowsXP, sp2.

When I try to add the vorbis.acm, using vorbisacm.inf, it does not appear in
the listing of audio codecs (sound cp/hardware/audio codecs/properties),
although it does appear in the ///windowsNT/drivers32 in the registry.
Although the .inf declared a 'successful installation', .ogg files won't
play.

Also, the listing of codecs in the Audio Codecs CP behaves strangely,
existing codecs appear on and disappear off the codec listing almost at
random.

In the registry, there are no blank entries in ///drivers32 or
///drivers.desc, (the one article i found about this problem suggested that
this might be the problem).

Thanks for your help! - Jong

Jong,

You may try the Codec available here:

Ramesh: Thanks for your reply. I already had a vorbis installer, which came
with FL_Studio_5. The problem is twofold.

First, When I install the codec, it does not appear in the Audio Codecs
Control Panel.

Second, In the Audio Codecs Control Panel, not all installed codecs are
listed, and some are listed with the wrong names. For example the ivi Mp3
codec is listed as the AC3ACM codec. If i click on the AC3ACM codec listing,
it will show the properties for the iviMp3 codec.

Can you help with that? Thanks, Jong

No idea why this happens, Jong. That's the reason I supplied an alternate
URL which has another Codec to play .OGG files.
