XP at cold bootup won't load volume icon in task tray

I uninstalled, then reinstalled system audio drivers but still am unable to
isolate the problem. This problem is associated with two applications for my
Toshiba A35-S159 notebook PC: (1) The Audio'97 system drivers; and (2) The
Easy-Button Utility coded by Dritek. The symptom is once I uninstall and
reinstall they will load at system startup but for some unknown reason, after
several successful startups, then they no longer load at cold bootup. I am
able to manually load after bootup but they don't appear in the task tray at
cold bootup. I think the problem may be in the startup registry because
these programs don't appear in the "startup" folder. Thank you for your help
or guidance to resolve the problem.

I was able to isolate the problem to Windows Defender (Beta 2) after
uninstalling this Beta version.
