In Task Manager, I've noticed a prgm. running, Apache.exe. Actually, two
instances are running. I've searched and found this:

C:\WINDOWS.0\Prefetch\APACHE.EXE-1BDF0C46.pf

Suspecting the file's purpose, I compressed it into a .rar file and deleted
the original. But still, everytime I reboot, the two instances of
Apache.exe are seen in Task Manager.

Is this file part of windows?

Apache is used to host web pages. So unless you are using your PC to host or
develop web pages it should not be there.

Apache is an open-source HTTP (web) server (http://httpd.apache.org).
It's a very high-quality product, used by huge numbers of web sites.

Many web developers have a copy of Apache on their machines so that
they can test their web pages before uploading them to their web
hoster.

If it's been installed on your machine, there should be an entry for
it in the "Add or Remove Programs" Control Panel applet.
