I do network printer and copier troublshooting on
networks with my laptop running XP home with a 40 gig HD.
I load a lot of drivers to test machines and always
delete them with a driver deleter tool when finished I
also have a Reg cleaner, it seems like my hard drive
space does not return to the previous state even after
scandisk and defrag. Is there a tool to accurately
portray free hard drive space?, and is this an issue with
XP?, thanks for any help. Fluffy

Hi Jan, No I use a shredder that is at DOD standards, I
constantly delete temp internet files, keep my disk
defragged at least once a week.

You are probably as a result making a large, steadily increasing, number
of restore points - and by default, 12% of the drive, 5 GB, will be
available for them to fill up. Have Folder Options - View set to show
Hidden files, and *not* Hide Protected mode ones, and check on the space
used by the 'System Volume Information' folder. You can go to System -
System restore, highlight the drive, Settings, and reduce the space to
under 1GB - I use 500MB and suspect that a lot of the problems seen with
it arise from it having too much space. You can clear it out, by
Disable system restore, reboot and make sure that folder is empty, then
start it up again on a smaller allowance
