Connected new XP workstation to a Windows 2000 DC. Could ping the server
via ip address and netbios name, but could not map a drive unless user was
the administrator. When I tried to add a user into the administrator group
for the AD, I got the message that the local server authority could not be
contacted, also, had an error message in Event Viewer, Event ID 1053.

Does anyone know what the problem is and how to solve it?

Thank you for your help in advance!

Based also on your info from the earlier post, my first suspicion is DNS.
However, the fact that you can map the drive as an admin leaves me
wondering. Just to be sure, I'd check it anyway. Specifically, while
logged on as a non-admin, check that the DNS IP is correct.
