XP activation issues (please help)

I had to resolve an issue with a XP client in my network. It included doing
some repairs in the Windows Repair Console. I don't know what exactly
happened but upon a reboot a pop up screen titled 'Windows Product
Activation' "This copy of Windows must be activated with Microsoft before you
can log on. Do you want to active now?" I click yes then the system reboots.
I go to login and the same thing happens. Does anyone have a clue as to why
it is doing this and is there a fix for it?

Yeah, you can fix this by calling microsoft and having them walk you
through activation over the phone. There are a few ways this could
have been caused. One is that it used to be possible for resellers to
use Windows XP product keys that were stolen from large OEMs. The
result: customers who purchase Windows on a new PC may not be able to
reinstall their operating system without first calling Microsoft
(also, certain restores or repairs could have the same result)

Makes you wonder how many pirates your experience with activation
caught. My educated guess would be none. Again this proves that the
program only inconveniences paying customers like you. If I were you, I
would call MS and give them holy hell.

I've actually, personally, caught 11 pirated copies of XP since the WGAN
program was started. Each time the person had already known about it and
was doing all that they could to hide it, except they didn't know about
WGAN until it was too late. 10 of them have properly bought valid copies
of XP.

Oh, and lets not forget the lady that got ripped off by a computer repair
shop that took them to court and won, and actually got her money!

And lets not forget the more than 2500 machines, the more than 80 servers,
and the hundreds of repair actions per year, that have all had NO problems
with Activation, re-activation, WGA and WGAN, that I have experience with.

You or the WGA program?

Man, you're a first class boy scout! Did you report them all to the
authorities so they can be fined and/or locked away?

That still doesn't explain how many pirates the OP's experience caught.
Like I said: NONE! Just because a techie like you doesn't have problems
with the lame anti piracy programs doesn't mean everyone won't have
problems as is exemplified by the OP and hundreds, if not thousands,
that have posted similar problems on this very news group.
