xls to csv

We recently converted an .xls file to a .csv in order to upload data into our company system (Axapta). Out of 600+ lines we had 18 instances where the number in the .csv cell was larger than that of the .xls cell. At this point there does not appear to be a pattern. The .xls cell format is set to number. Has anyone every experienced a similar problem. Any ideas on where I should look? I am a novice with xls and know nothing about csv. Thanks.
