Have xp home on my lap top and have been unable to find XLS program for it,
any hints

Excel is not included in Windows. Instead it is part of Office, of which
"Office XP" is one version.

You'll have to purchase a version of Office (or a standalone Excel
application - but you can usually get Office, with Word, PowerPoint, and
others thrown in, for less than you'd pay for any two). I'd recommend
Office 2000 or Office 2002. They're cheaper, there's nothing added in
Office 2003 that the vast majority of users need, and the Help system in
Office 2003 is worse than the previous versions.

Any version of excel should work well with xp home edition. Recommend
xl97sr2 or later. Look at Ebay. make sure you get a LEGAL version.

Excel is not included with Windows OS.

It is part of MS Office Suite or a stand-alone application.

You don't download Excel. You purchase it or Office Suite from a retailer or
order from MS on line. They will send you a CD.

For info on ordering see this website.

http://www.microsoft.com/office/programs/default.asp to see the Office
products and how to purchase.

Note:you probably don't need XL2003 so browse to the "previous versions"
section.

Check out Ebay for a deal on Office 97 or 2000. If you go this route, make
sure there is a licence for the product.

If you just want to view or print the Excel file you can

Download and install the Excel Viewer from....
