x64 Freezing games CTD

I installed vista ultimate x64 on my new machine. I did a memtest on it
earlier and it all passed. I am gonna try doing a 3dmark atm. I dont think
my problems are unique. My specs are follows.

Core 2 Duo E6600
AW9D-Max
2GB mem
Geforce 8600GT

I am having trouble with many games freezing. They work for quite a while
or sometimes freeze quick and CTD. I am just wondering if its just a driver
problem or what? Should I try x86 vista? Do games work better in x86 vista?

I am having problems with the following games.

Half Life 2 x64
Just Cause
FSX
Battlefield 2
Age of empires 3 including the warchiefs
Sin Emergence

These are all I tried so far. All of them seem to have some problem or
whatnot. I am thinking its a nvidia driver problem beucase vista x64 works
good.

Half Life 2 x64

Plays fine for me.

Just Cause
FSX
Battlefield 2

I have BF2 and it tends to blue screen the PC when loading a new map.
Sometimes right in the middle of a game, too, but not as often. I've
seen some other people with the same problem but seems it works fine for
most people so we're in the minority.

Most of my driver problems are blue screens (I also have 64 Ultimate, and
have an 8800GTX, Audigy X-Fi Gamer, btw). Such as in BF2 mentioned
above. I've seen Painkiller blue screen a couple times, too. And the
new DX10 patch for Company of Heroes causes a blue screen if I change the
setting from DX10 to DX9, then reload a game without exiting then
restarting the whole game first.

Have you checked temperature? Lockups can be caused by high temps.

I've also seen lockups with sound card issues, so I'd tend to think if
you're having a driver issue, it's the audio, not the video.

You didn't mention what driver version for the 8800 you have. They
released a new beta (158.45) just before this weekend started...
