Hi,

my X1950pro is a TVOUT version so i can't use
it directly. What about the possibility to use
another capture device like a TV Card for inputs
and GPU for realtime encoding?

What is it you want to do? Are you saying that your x1950Pro does not have a
video-in so you need another card? I don't really understand what you are
asking - can you make it any clearer?

I think he's asking about using the GPU for encoding/decoding. I really
don't know but would assume both cards would need to be AVIVO cards. IIRC
the HDTV Wonder, 550 and 650 are AVIVO. Might need to be a PCI-E card
though.

The 2600 claims to do this but don't know what other graphics cards do.
Possibly 1x00 cards can too. Searching the ATI site for AVIVO should provide
a starting point.

Yes :)

I search for AVIVO documentation and i think there are
no other possibilities than using API and writing software
directly - a VirtualDub plug may be a good idea.

Sorry for my poor english :p

The decoding accelerations are "built-in" and working
on any of the specified video streams that pass through
the card. The new cards have UVD (Universal Video
Decoding) primarily for HD DVD decoding.

It may be that the new version of Avivo for the HD 2400 &
HD2600 cards, is ready for primetime, but the old one for
the X1000 series cards, wasn't. ( This is in regard to the
Cobra transcoder, it's amazingly fast but not able to create
high quality for full sized display, much less HD. It is still a
good way to make video for mobile devices, though.)

There was a hacked version of AvivoXCode:
"ATI AVIVO Video Converter v1.12" (2.28MB)
that will work with any video card, but it quickly
became very hard to find. You might find it with a
conscientious Google search. (I've found it on a RU
site, in the past.)

One thing to note about, at least the early Avivo, is that
it does the transcoding using the CPU, there are really no
special GPU contributions to the transcoding.

Luck;
Ken
