WXP and Intel INF Utility

I downloaded the latest INF Utility (5.1.1.1002) from Intel for support of a Window XPHome_SP1 installation. I have and ASUS p4c800e-deluxe with and Intel 875P chipset and P4.2.4c Intel Processor
The INF utility was employed immediately after a successful clean install of the OS and prior to any other software, drivers, updates, etc
Listed below is the text from an extracted "inf" file from the most current Intel INF Chipset Utility file for the 875P Chipset. The file name is 865.inf and it is found in the ICH5\XP folder after the Intel INF Utility files are extracted..

The 865.inf title is: " Filename: 865.INF (82865 & 82875/E7210 & 82848 Chipset)
; ** Abstract: Windows* XP INF File for
; ** 82865 & 82875/E7210 & 82848 Memory Controller Hu
; ** Last Update: Aug 19, 2003 (Version 5.1.0 Build 1006

Obviously, it applies to three Intel Chipsets apparently for three specific MCHubs used by the i865, the i875, and the i848
The "Strings" listed in the 865.inf are as follows
[Strings
INTEL="Intel
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2570.DeviceDesc="Intel(R) 82865G/PE/P/GV/82848P Processor to I/O Controller - 2570
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2571.DeviceDesc="Intel(R) 82865G/PE/P/GV/82848P Processor to AGP Controller - 2571
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2573.DeviceDesc="Intel(R) 82865G/PE/P/GV/82848P Processor to PCI to CSA bridge - 2573
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2576.DeviceDesc="Intel(R) 82865G/PE/P/GV/82848P Processor to I/O Memory Interface - 2576
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2578.DeviceDesc="Intel(R) 82875P/E7210 Memory Controller Hub - 2578
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2579.DeviceDesc="Intel(R) 82875P Processor to AGP Controller - 2579
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_257B.DeviceDesc="Intel(R) 82875P/E7210 Processor to PCI to CSA bridge - 257B
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_257E.DeviceDesc="Intel(R) 82875P/E7210 Processor to I/O Memory Interface - 257E

NOTE ABOVE: There is NO string for the 875P for an "Intel(R)82875P Processor to I/O Controller -257E" listed. However, the listings for both the i865 and i848 both contain a string for a "Processor to I/O Controller" instruction

Now, after installing the above Intel INF utility, Intel advises the WXPuser to check 'Device Manager' and expand the 'System Devices' to check for the following listing: Intel(R) 82875 Processor to I/O Controller - 257E.
These instructions are found on the Intel website @ http://support.intel.com/support/chipsets/inf/sb/CS-009267.htm and @ http://support.intel.com/support/chipsets/inf/sb/CS-009263.htm . This check is specifically noted as the way to Confirm the proper installation of the Intel INF Config. Utility.

I followed all the proper procedures for install WXP and the Intel INF Configuration Utility
I found NO listing for "Intel(R) 82875 Processor to I/O Controller - 257E" in my Device Manager
I am not surprised that the entry in the Devie Manager is missing since it is not included in the 865.inf file used to fully install the current Intel INF utility on 875P Chipsets

The odd part of all this is that I have no 'problem' uninstalled devices in Device Manger; those listed with a big yellow exclaimation point or question mark. All devices listed are apparently installed properly. Second, while I do not have the Device Manager Listing indicated by Intel as "Intel(R) 82875 Processor to I/O Controller - 257E" I also do not have the "82875P/E7210 Processor to I/O Memory Interface - 257E" clearly listed as a string in the current INF Utility and listed above in this post. Lastly, as stated, there are NO devices in Device Manager that appear to need attention, view by Type or Connection. Many have advised me to "forget about it". Sorry, that is not my style. My quess is some device was not installed during the installatoin of XP, has never been discovered as 'new hardware' when booting up, so it remains unknow. The only other thing I can quess is it has something to do with the "82875P/E7210 Processor to I/O Memory Interface - 257E" a string clearly intended to be associated with a device, but in my case is not

Any help identifying the underlying issues here would be appreciated. I want to avoid shade treeing this Install of XP and simply start all over with another clean install. Re-installing is just no fun. Thank yo

It's backwards, but download Intel's chipset ID utility and verify what
you think you have on the board.

thank you. Do you mean to re-run the intel utility
I already selected each existing entry in device manager, examinged each entry to see what existing drivers were loaded, and then started the device manager upgrade driver process for each entry to see what was available if I selected a driver from the list presented by WXP. The results were that each was up to date per the Intel file. Finally, I used the files from the current Intel INF utility for XP to try update each device manager entry in question. XP reported that again the most current driver was already loaded.

My QUESS at the moment is this. By examing the 865.inf file from the current Intel Utility, only the 875P chipset entries are unique. One, there are only (3) strings for 875, and second, the 875 does not have a string that loads something called "82875 Processor to I/O Controller -275E". This is the entry Intel claim XP users should have to confirm proper INF install. I lack the engineering insight into what this entries are and how each interface with one of the two chips in the 875P chipset. I do know at the moment, the 875P is unique compared to its sister chips, even the 865. I am still tying.
