WWlanMonitor.exe in trouble

Without any (known) change to my system, this process now
repeatedly posts a message:
Failed to open the registry
key!System\CurrentCOntrolSet\Sontrol\Class\{lots of
numbers}\0014 in a pop-up window on the desktop
This only happens on the home LAN, at work it never shows
this message. Any idea what this is, and is it dangerous
to kill WWlanMonitor in the Task Manager.
Any help appreciated
