I have just uninstalled sevice pack2 in a last attempt to get rid of
"wuauclt" it didnt work. since installing sp2 this "windows auto update"
doesnt allow me to access the web, it hogs all cpu. I gone to "Msconfig"
hkey/local/soft/win/current/run etc and manually removed the entry, same with
current user, deleted it with "regclean" and deleted it in windows/sys32 but
it just keeps recopying itself. I have turned off updates. I have to use task
manager to halt this process before I can use internet explorer.
How can I remove it totally and permanently ???????

wuauclt.exe = Automatic Updates
Windows Update AutoUpdate Client. Background process which checks with
Microsoft website for updates to the operating system. Shows up on the Task
Manager's processes list when it is waiting for a response, e.g. to confirm
permission to download an update.

wuauclt.exe lives here >>>
C:\WINDOWS\system32
and
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache

If you have it anywhere else I would worry.

Turn off Automatic Updates
Win key + Pause key
Automatic Updates tab
Turn off Automatic Updates
Apply
OK
