WSUS

Let's say I have a user with a laptop who has been on travel for a few weeks.
I have since approved updates. Once it's connected back up to the company
network, how long before it checks in with the WSUS server? I'm hoping that
the answer is in the minutes range... :)

Thanks a ton for any help!

If I recall correctly that is configuarable via Group Policy. Check
with I.T. This is only indirectly a registry issue.

You can configure how often that systems check in with the WSUS server. What
I'm after is how long it would take a laptop to check in once it has been
connected to the network after not having been connected in a few weeks...

I believe the default is about every 20 hours and that only means that it
will happen within 20% of the 20 hours expiration so that works out to be
16 - 24 hours. I know the reason for not being exactly 24 hours is to
prevent things like everyone logging in at 9:00 in the morning and hitting
the WSUS server right away and overloading it.

If this is a one time thing you can force the update by usint the steps on
this link.

If the person is working at the time and you don't want to kick them off you
can attach to their restistry remotely using Regedit and connect to their
registry then use the "Computer Management" console under Administrative
tools to connect to their computer and restart the AU service after you made
the changes.
