WSUS and new final version of Defender

Does anyone know if and/or when will the final version of Defender be sent to
WSUS as an update? At least I have not seen it as an update/upgrade on my
WSUS server yet. I am receiving the final Defender definitions on my WSUS,
but I have not seen the actual Defender upgrade yet.

Maybe I am missing something?

Hi Pablo,

Your IT dept/Admin must permit and publish WDs definitions from the internal
corporate WSUS server.
So talk/mail him/them and ask for permission.

If your windows update is pointing to your local WSUS, then you must include
the Windows Defender in synchronization setting.

In Products selection, please include Windows Defender

In Update classifications, please include Definition Updates
See this KB... http://support.microsoft.com/kb/919772
You must synchronize the server and approve the definition for clients to
get the latest definition.

Good luck

I just realized that I don't know if the engine and definition updates for
the Beta and Final are one and the same. Could anyone still on the Beta
version of the product let me/us know if your WD engine and definitions, if
current, differ from the version numbers on my Final release from Help
About Windows Defender? I do know your Windows Defender GUI version
number is different from the Final as shown below, but I'm unclear about
these other versions. What version numbers do you show? A copy and paste
would be appreciated:

Engine Version: 1.1.1609.0

Definition Version: 1.14.1821.5

Hi Dave. Vince here. I still have the Beta Version of Windows Defender. You
are currently up to date as of today, November 6, 2006. In an earlier post,
it looks like we'll get notice to update to the final version for existing WD
users ,but that hasn't come as yet. The beta version doesn't expire till
December 31, 2006. You can choose to download the final Version if you can't
wait.

As of the November 06, 2006, WD Beta (2)

WD Version: 1.1.1347.0
Engine Version: 1.1.1609.0
Definition Version: 1.14.1821.5

Hi Vince;

Great thanks, you answered my question... but actually I am on Final
already and I was asking what versions you as a Beta user have. Your
answer tells me you have exactly the same engine and definitions as I have
with only the GUI interface needing to be updated to get to the Final
complete release. Also, I expect that means that everyone still on the
Beta should be pretty well protected if not exactly equal to the Final...
good news.

Judging by past experience the GUI won't update automatically, people will
have to go to the Ms site and download an update to get it, and you're
right, you can chose to wait for the official Ms announcement or update on
your own. Either way, it probably will be a manual update that does not
require un-installing the prior Beta release but overlays right on top of
it. Unless your in a far remote corner of our planet that code should be
available by this point, it takes a while to get it distributed and
available everywhere. The UK for example had a delay of at least a few
days after the USA availability of the code back on October 23.

Anyway I appreciate your help... now I know how they're handling the
upgrade process.

I don't know this answer--but I really wouldn't expect that to happen.
