Hi PastaVerde,

I'm not sure if/how you can plug
the free 2003 command-line compiler in VC6,

I did download the toolkit ( almost 2 hours ),
but it was in vain, it seems,
as VC6's debugger won't work with it.

currently a free download
( but they ask you to register ):
http://lab.msdn.microsoft.com/express/visualc/default.aspx
This comes with a new IDE
and a pre-release version of the .NET Framework 2.0
( you can also target native x86 if you like ) >>

I'm only targeting the regular Win XP environment,
not .NET's virtual machine, not a console, etc.

Can VC Express couldn't build normal .EXE files ?

Hi Tom Shelton,

I use memmove() all the time.

Also, I question the quality of any virtual OS like .NET,

What's wrong with using Win XP directly ?

Jeff, why not just take a blank cdr(w)
into one of the Udub's libraries,
download and burn it ?

Proof that hanging around *nix folks makes you stupid.

The download failed, so maybe I will do that.

I probably should've done that with the Platform SDK too,
instead of paying 10 bucks and having it shipped.

But it costs me about 10 bucks
for a pack of blank CDs anyways.
( Rebates are cheaper, but a real hassle )

And waiting around for a 300+ meg download
isn't much fun... even with a fast connection.

Jeff,

I think its pathetic that you can't figure out what
to do in a university library for a half an hour.

Now that I have a home connection,
I haven't spent much time at the campus libraries.

But it seems that they have radically changed
their policies... Only the newer PCs have CD burners,
and those require a student ID to login.

Could this be due to piracy issues ?

So I'd have to use the PCs at the labs,
which are notionally restricted to certain students
and such... e.g. math students.

This is not a problem for me...

unless they have tightened their security.

At any rate,
I don't want to bother the people there too much.

I look like an old bum ( because I am an old bum )
so I fear that some people might be annoyed.
