WRONG WEB PAGE SIZE

The IE 6.0 version on Home XP does not always correctly
display web pages. Some are full size (filling the whole
browser window); others are 3/4 the size of the browser
window and justified left or right or centered.

This is not a result of the settings defined by the web
developer, it is an IE software problem. Additionally,
the problem does not occur on other computers running
earlier versions of IE, on the same web pages in question.

I have tried uninstalling 6.0 from XP (a daunting task
that requires editing the registry) and reinstalling an
earlier version of IE, but XP will not accept earlier
versions - so I was left to reinstall 6.0

I have found users with the same problem on the google
group, but no one has responded with an answer. Does
anyone have a fix? Will this be addressed in future
software updates? Please advise.

Thanks.

Could be a few things but I would check the basics first. Have you tried to
correct this through "Folder Options" ? If you have not :-
1 Close all windows.
2 Open e.g. "My Computer" and size that window the way you wish and leave it
open.
3 In My Computer go to Tools---Folder Options---View(Tab)---Apply to all
Folders
4 Ok out.
Windows should now open all folders (nearly) the way My Computer has been
set up.

Hope this is helpful, if not try again.

Thanks, but the problem isn't with the size of the Browser
Window, the Browser window is fully enlarged and not a
problem. The issue is some (not all) web PAGES are
undersized 'within' the browser window. So, for instance,
on the web pages that show undersized, and centered -
there is empty space on the left and right 'within' the
browser window.

Any other thoughts?

I set this page to a maximum of 800 pixels wide. If the other computers are
displaying at 800 X 600 (Used to be the maximum at one time) and your new
one is displaying at 1024 X 768 then sure, you can make the Explorer window
wider than the page can expand to. It will shrink a bit but won't go bigger
so you'll see a blank grey area to the right.

I didn't have to set a maximum width but using tables it can become a
problem for users with older machines if you don't.

Are you sure this isn't the problem?

I seriously doubt that this is a browser problem. I do understand that you
have tested this on other computers and not witnessed the problem. However,
the page rendering is relative to your desktop size. Even if you tested on
two identical computers, it could render different, depending upon the
desktop size (not screen size) defined in the Windows Control Panel "Display"
applet (your video card may substitute it's own applet).

Any defined desktop size > 800 x 600 is likely to encounter what you have
described. It is not anything that you have control over. See here for
