Hello,

Some one deliverd us txt files exported from there Access database and we
imported them.

We have noticed that "é "has become "?"

This probably has something to to with Ascii/ unicode translation tables

How can I fix this?

thx

This is probably coming from different code pages beetween the machine who
has make the txt file and the one who have imported it. When importing the
txt files, your machine is using the wrong code page; hence the error.
Unicode is not necessarily involved in the process, as each machine has a
Windows Code Page and a OEM Code page, the latter being used for DOS
operation.

This is a complex subject, with numerous possibilities for something to go
wrong.

If the Windows code pages beetween your machines are differents, it will not
be possible to transfert High Order Character Codes directly beetween these
using the Ascii format without some "help" from your part; like
encoding/decoding the accentued letters with some sort of scheme. You cans
also ask them to export their files in Unicode format.

The Borland Database Engine, when installed, is also known to interfere with
the importation of text files into Access, as some of its settings will
override those in Access.

Hi John,

As you're importing the files, click the Advanced... button in the text
import wizard. This allows you to select the encoding to use, which will
probably fix this problem.
