Wrong password on resume

Hi there,

Tried Google to no avail.
XP SP2
Three users with different passwords, one PC.
Starting from power on, get welcome screen, and
input password, no problem, log in OK.

After 5 minutes of inactivity, screensaver kicks in.
When I come back, and move the mouse, welcome screen
shows, and I click on my name and type in the correct
password that I always do, but XP tells me that it is
not correct password.

Finally I give up and restart the windows. This time it is
OK again. I can log in. If goes to screensaver again, I will
have to restart again, and again.

The only thing I did recently was to uninstall a freeware
screensaver, and when I ran spybot search & destroy, it
found something like WhenU.Save or close to it, and I let
it to fix the problem. Could this be causing it?

I am only using one keyboard lang., English.
And no "caps lock" is not on.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Mike

Sounds like spyware / malware simulating your login screen to steal your
password etc.
Turning off your screensaver (via right-click desktop > Properties >
Screensaver) may help temporarily. A few more scans with spyware / virus
detectors may also reveal more.

It takes all sorts to make a world

And if you're wondering why on earth I wrote that, well "ma"

Yes, I could but then in a multi-user situation it may not be a good idea.
Any more suggestions how to fix this problem?

Thanks

If you're not doing so already, then try changing your screensaver to one of
the Windows default ones.

I assume you are referring to something like
"maze" or "Beziers" or "pipes"? If so, yes
I switched to "maze" when I totally removed
the freeware saver when I started sensing
troubles caused by it.

I have run spyware & Adware cleaners
several times since then and all report nothing
bad.

Thanks for replying.
