Hi!

I can't uncheck the "write-protection" box in any of my
subfolders to c:\. They keep coming back. The whole drive
is write-protected. How can I change that?

I have XP Professional

Are you logging in as administrator first of all, and if you do have admin rights are you on a netowrk, try getting admin rights on just the local machine if the files are on your computer. when you log on with admin user then you can make the changes.

Email me if it works or not.

To do your attribute change fast and easy, use attrib in a CMD box.
It saves you a lot time.

The command should be about: Attrib -R *.* /S

I also have just experienced the same problem?
I will work on the problem tomorrow and I have added a post tonight.
"Problems Read Only Attributes cant be changed?"

With my self I think it might have something to do with "Network setup
wizard" or
the fact that I switch on and off the "Simple file sharing".

I am admin and I am part of a work group and the other machine is also the
same?
So the only cross contamination I can think of is the set up network wizard
disk?

The UI cannot change the read-only attribute on a folder - only on files.
If you need to change the attribute on a folder, use the command line tool
"attrib" (as demonstrated earlier in this thread by Neils).
