Hi,

When i try to start my computer, the windows98 start screen comes up, then I
get
an "error writing to drive c", "disk is write protected"

What's going on here? I've run a diagnostic on the drive and it checks out.
I have a new hard drive waiting to go in, but I would like to salvage the
material on this
drive. maybe the MBR or boot sector is fried? Windows98 does start to
boot, but then it freezes. Thanks in advance!

Is you drive compressed (doublespaced, etc.)?

If so, the main file is buggered up and I doubt you'll be able to get it
back.

thanks for the reply, but no the drive is not compressed. Now my video is
not working. This has to be MB issue. Thanks

Try cleaning out some of the files in your C: root directory.

Or create a folder there and dump some of the files into it.

Just a stab in the dark...but you may have too many files there.

Have a nice week...
