WPA-PSK Network config w/MS VISTA

7 I use regularly.

One is WPA2 on a Netgear WAP54G, one was WPA-PSK on a Zyxel but is now WEP
and I'll try it again with WPA-PSK next week when I'm there again, and 5
others are WEP on a D-LINK, a Linksys & two TP-LINK TL-WR340G, and an
unknown.

Sometimes they worked and sometimes they didn't as they couldn't get an IP.

I tried everything I could think of such as downloading latest Thinkpad
drivers, removing IPv6 from the configuration. Your suggestion seems to have
worked for me . Thank you.

do you know how these networks are configured for security? if they
require WPA2 only then that is what you would need to use. the fix I
mentioned is a connectivity fix for not getting an IP at all. so if
you are saying that you can connect if you use WPA2, then the fix
won't help you.

do you have a network that you can't connect to at all?

Perhaps I should clarify. I use several networks & I try to use the highest
security each time, so WPA2 #1 preference, WPA-PSK #2, WEP #3.

good that the fix worked. it's likely that at least one of these
needed the fix. wich won't hurt connectivity with the others. please
post back if you have further problems.

Today I've again tried WPA-PSK on the Zyxel instead of WEP and it doesn't
work. It did when I first set it up but then it stopped several weeks after
and I suspect that one of the Vista updates has done this. I can live with
WEP on the Zyxel.

thanks for the update. do you know if the wireless driver on the
computer was updated when this stopped working?

Sorry. I didn't keep track of it at the time.

When I first opened my new notebook PC with Vista the wireless started
straight up. I then went travelling for a few weeks without it (took my XP
machine in case I had any troubles with Vista on the road) and when I
started the Vista machine up a few weeks later I did updates & then I
updated the drivers etc.

If you wanted to, you could try a driver rollback from device
manager. If the older driver works, and you can use
WPa-PSK, you'd have better protection.

Ok, that's worth considering.
