WPA.BAK

I am thinking of reinstalling XP on the same hardware and, after reading
the instructions on this web page:

I find I don't have wpa.bak on my computer, only wpa.dbl. Will this
method work if I reinstall XP and only replace the wpa.dbl file?

Unlikely! MS has purposely "lamed" the product activation system so
you must activate each/every time we install/re-install XP (excluding
OEM pre-installed versions.)

Prefer not to call, thanks. I researched it more and the .bak file isn't
necessary. Being as it will be reinstalled on the exact same hard ware,
I believe it will work.

Apparently not everywhere since some have reported the number for their
location is not toll free.
Remember, Microsoft is worldwide.

I may be wrong, but I think Alias, like some, would just prefer not to call.

You're right. I have an English version of XP and I live in a Spanish
speaking country. Who will I have to call, India or Bolivia? If it's a
number in Spain, it's a toll call that I pay, not MS.

Fortunately, I fixed the problem and a reinstall isn't necessary.
