would like Seperate Excel Windows

It would be NICE to be able to open 2 Excel files in Different Windows, like
Word Documents.

It would Also be Nice to open PowerPoint files in different windows as well.

Window > Arrange > Horizontal, Vertical, etc.

Window > Split

Jim,

Hopefully the guys have answered your question, but I read your question as
being two completely independent windows.

Which version of excel are you using? If you have your first document open,
then click on the excel icon and a new, completely separate window will
appear. you then open your second spreadsheet using the Open command in the
file menu.

I hope you don't mind the addition. I'm using Office 2003 and both of these
solutions would actually be 'sharing' a window. I use those solutions when
I'm at my desktop, but when I'm using a smaller laptop screen (or using a
couple of spreadsheets and a word document) I quite like having independent
windows I can move, overlap and resize during the work.

It actually took me ages to come around to the 'new window' way of working
just because I wasn't used to it, but I'm getting there now ;)

I'm using Office 2007.

In Word, if you open 2 documents, you get two seperate windows, each window
is independent of the other, each with its own ribbon.

In Excel or PowerPoint, if you open 2 Excel or PPT's files you Must work
within the boundaries of your Excel Window....the Excel file are not
independent. If you want 2 Excel Sheets side by side you have to "widen" the
"base" Excel Window to view both Excel file side-by-side. Having to use the
same ribbon for both Excel files slows my progress, as well as having to
Constantly having to Manually ADJUSTING each files position.

The same is true for PowerPoint. This is not constant behavior with Word.

I was on a machine with 2003 yesterday, so my apologies for the delay.

I've just tried this on my 2007 machine and I see what you mean. I hadn't
noticed it before because I ALWAYS open my second spreadsheet in a separate
excel window so i do get the independence.

I'm going to go an vote for your comment now. I actually don't mind which
way it works, but I do think it should be consistent (and preferably
something the user can set in options to decide whether they want the same
window or different).

As you've mentioned that this is really slowing you down, I've double
checked and the previous suggestion does still work in 2007. It's only a
workaround but hopefully it will help while you wait for your suggestion to
be considered.
Open your first spreadsheet as normal.
Then to open the second spreadsheet click on your excel icon (on your
desktop, or start menu or wherever). This will open a second, independent
window and you can do 'file open' from there to open your second spreadsheet
independently. You now have two completely separate windows that can move
independently and each have their own ribbons.

Jim,

I too would like the solution for Excel to split windows like you can in
Word. Have you figured out how yet? I haven't been able to find a solution
yet.
