Works Suite 2000 CD Product Key

E

Ed.

I have an old four year old Dell Desktop. It came with factory installed
Microsoft Works Suite 2000. I just built a new computer and I want to format
the old Dell and just put Windows 98 back on it and on the new one put the
Works Suite 2000.

I haven't formatted the old Dell yet cause I want to put the drive in the
new one so I can copy 80 MB of Documents over to it. I have installed Works
2000 on the new computer but when I go to open any part of it, it wants the
CD-Key and says it is the 25 character key found usually on the yellow label
on the jewel case.

Well, this Works Suite that came with Dell was factory installed but with it
they gave me seven CD's and each is in a paper sleeve. There is no CD-Key to
be found on the sleeves.

The computer is too old and out of warranty so it wouldn't do any good to
call Dell. I wanted to know if I searched the registry on the old computer
before I format it, if I would be able to locate this CD-key. If possible,
can some one please tell me what phrase or words to search for?

Thanks to anyone that can help,
Ed.
PS - This is a legit transfer or move and I am not trying to pirate or steal
anything.

Very likely the Dell supplied WORKS SUITE is OEM and is not
licensed to be moved to your new computer. The good news is
that you can buy the newest WORKS SUITE for very little
money.
www.pricewatch.com shows WORKS SUITE 2004 on both CD and DVD
for under $40.

OK, thanks for the reply. I was trying to keep the Works 2000 Suite simply
because of Office and Word that is in it. All my 80MB of documents were
created in it. I just wanted to be sure that I could read all of them and
not have to convert or make any format changes to them if I had used another
program such as the latest Works Suite 2004.

As a poster mentioned this may be an OEM from Dell and can't be transferred.
So, I decided I would like to clean up the old computer and reinstall Works
2000 Suite back to it and continue using it just for as a word processor.
But, I still would have to find the key. Anyone with other suggestions?

Thanks

WORKS SUITE includes WORD, that's what makes it a suite. It
does not include OFFICE apps such as Excel, Outlook, Access
or PowerPoint. But the latest version of WORD and the
latest version of WORKS word processor, spreadsheet and
database are included. There should be no problem reading
your old files.

If you have OFFICE on the old computer (and it is not
licensed as OEM) you can install that on the new computer.

Dell keeps records, very good records, the have 24/7
telephone support, why not call them. They do have the data
you need. They can even verify whether the suite is
licensed only for your old computer.

They'll ask for your Dell service tag number. Ph.

Not true, just to clarify, the latest version of Works Suite is 2004, and the version of Word in that suite is 2002 (same as in Office XP). If you want Word 2003, you would need to purchase that separately, or in the various flavors of Office 2003.

Close enough, it would be newer than what he has.

Go to http://aumha.org/freeware.htm\aida
and get the download of Aida 32; an excellent system information
program. It Software - Licenses page will give you the keys used to
install several packages (including Windows itself and Office). Not
sure about Works, but it probably will be there - if it can be found at
all

Thanks again. I will try that also.

Greetings --

You have an OEM license for Works Suite. You cannot legally use
it on any computer other than the one with which it was purchased. An
OEM license, once installed, is not legally transferable to another
computer under any circumstances.

OK, Thanks. I got all that. As I said earlier I have decided I am going to
format the original PC and put Works back on it. The problem is I still need
the CD-Key. I will the Dell 800 number as another poster suggested and see
if they can give it me.

This to all that replied. The issue has been taken resolved now. We found
the CD-Key. It was buried in a bunch of stuff and we were looking for a
label on a jewel case but it was on a booklet with the Certificate of
Authenticity.

Thanks Again,
Ed.
