Working With Field Codes And Variables In Word 2007

Hi,

Does anyone know anything about working with field codes and variables in Microsoft Word 2007? I'm trying to find a feature that provides shortcuts and an easier way to insert portions of a document template. Quick Tools and AutoText are close to what I'm looking for. Any suggestions?
