Hi,

I'm fairly new to XP in a workgroup enviroment I've been supporting it since
it came out in a c/s enviroment. I have a situation where I have a mixed
workgroup of XP Home and Pro, and Windows 98, I would like to be able to
restrict some people from accessing some of the shared folders on certain XP
machines, yet allow other people to access as they need them. Is there any
way to do this with XP?

Thanks Craig

Hi Craig,
I don't know how much do you know about sharing in WinXp so if you'll have
any additional questions please feel free to ask.

The "problem" in your case is WinXp home.
You have only two options Share, Don't Share (You could go into safe mode,
where you have Security tab, but I wouldn't go there if you don't know much
about Xp environment).

If you only want to restrict your folders and files on your Win XP Pro
computer than create all the users you have in your network on that
computer.
Q279783
or
Computer Management / Local Users and Groups - Q308423

The user must have identical password on both computers (if you logon in
your Win98 computer as u: Test p:test333 , you must create an identical user
on you Win Xp Pro computer).

The final thing to do is to disable Simple File Sharing on your Xp Pro
comp. - Q307874

If you don't have a password on your user account see also the article:
Q303846

Hope I was clear and again feel free to ask any additional questions.
