Workgroup Target

D

Daniel

I created a new workgroup using the wizard and printed out
my report etc. I added a group called FullUsers. I did
the wizard while one of my databases was open (a backup
just in case). So yesterday it gave me the error
"No permissions granted etc.." The other databases worked
as normal. Today I began gingerly setting a password for
the Admin and so now all my DB's prompt for ID and PW,
fine. The group that I created, however, is not on the
list of groups with Admins and Users. Do I have two WID
targets floating around? And how do I find out which DB is
pointing to which target? I have read FAQ's and that has
helped but I do not want to proceed in error.

Thanks

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

I would say that you have more than one mdw. The first step in the wizard
asks you if you want to create a new one.

It may have joined you by default to this new mdw, or left you joined to the
standard system.mdw workgroup, and created a desktop shortcut for your
secure mdw.

Also when you set a password the Admin user, you may have done so in the
standard system.mdw. You'll want to clear the password for it.

You can start by using Start, Search, and find all *.mdw files. Then use
the workgroup administrator to see which one you are currently joined to.

If it's the standard system.mdw, then leave it; else join the system.mdw (it
usually is located in the windows system folder).

If you don't have one, create a desktop shortcut for your secure mdb that
points to the correct mdw file for that session. All other sessions will
use your default, and not prompt you for a login.

The target of the shortcut would look like:
"path to msaccess.exe" "path to secure mdb" /wrkgrp "path to secure mdw"
