Workgroup Problem with Split DB

I am working with a secure access 97 DB that I have
converted to access 2000 and then split. Deleted the 2000
backend and linked the tables to the access 97 DB so that
users on both 97 and 2000 can use the DB. My question is
that I compacted the origninal 97 workgroups with access
2000. I now have both users of 97 and 2000 connecting to
the new compacted workgroup. If I add or delete a user I
can go into the security of either version and see the
change, but if I change the permissions on a table, form,
report, macro for one of my user groups (i.e. can now
delete data) I only see the change on the version I made
the change on. Why is this? How can I fix this so that I
only need to make a change in one verson?
Thanks for any help or ideas

You need to make the permission changes in both versions of the frontend.
Permissions are stored in the mdb, not the workgroup.

Sorry I did not explain myself well. I do make the
changes in the frontend, but like you said I have to do it
in both versons, is there no way I can do it in one and
have it reflect in the other?

You explained yourself fine. The permissions are stored in the MDB. Since
you have two versions of the frontend MDB, you have to make the permission
changes in both.

An alternative, is to make changes only in the 97 version frontend, and once
done, recreate the 2000 version.

Thanks very much Joan I appreciate the help. I guess, I
did do the conversion and split ok, I just thought for
some reason that the permission would be connected through
the workgroup. But that's ok, I don't think I should have
to make too many changes so to do it in both is not a big
problem.
thanks again
